This is a listing for one gorgeous encased raku bead. I make these in pairs on the mandrel, so if you would like matching pairs, you can indicate this when checking out. The process for making these beads can be elaborate. I like to make two beads side by side so that I can ensure exact same size and color pattern. Once the base beads are made, the glass is reheated and rolled in a reactive glass called iris orange raku. After this step, I reduce the oxygen and work to bring out beautiful colors. Once I’m satisfied, I then use only the best clear glass to encase the bead. This step is crucial as inferior glass can leave bubbles, and a lot of scum. The encasement step gives the final product a beautiful magnified appearance! These can be used for single necklaces, or bracelets, but I love them for earrings!
